This is a good lesson for all lottery players to never throw away the tickets once the winning numbers because some lottery officials may make mistakes. What has been done by the the Florida Lottery just proved it. The officials have just made a statement that they made a mistake when announcing the winning numbers to win the $50 million jackpot.
On Thursday morning, Dec 27, the Powerball Lottery prize worth $50 million was announced with the winning numbers of 54, 43, 13, 11, and 23 with 4 as the Powerball number. However, it turned out that the press release was wrong, It was not number ‘13’ but the combination should include ’14’ rather than 13.
Although the correction was given shortly after that, there is no guarantee that the real winner has not dumped his ticket because he thought he did not win.
The good thing is that nobody has claimed to be the winner of that ‘false’ winning ticket. If so, it will be a bit hard to apologize to him. Again, the lesson is that it is not bad at all to keep the lottery tickets after the announcement in case you win. It is worth doing it because the lottery officials can make mistakes when typing the results.
