The need to protect lottery winners’ identities seems to increase after several violent incidents that happen to lottery winners causing them to be scammed, abused and even killed. Most states in the US and other countries in the world announce the names of the lottery winners in order to show the reliability of the lottery and attract more punters but now some states considered keeping the names anonymous.
The most recent policy comes from the state of Arizona which proposes a new law to keep the names of the lottery winners anonymous although the state is still required to provide some proofs that real winners are really given the prizes in every drawing. This new proposal was put forward in the House of Representatives hearing in Arizona last week.
The representative from the Republican, John Kavanagh, suggested the bill in the hearing on Tuesday afternoon. In the hearing among the committee of the House government, Kavanagh advised that lottery winners should be kept confidential especially for the multi-state lotteries which often offer big prizes, Mega Million and Powerball. This proposal includes some advice to keep the name of the winners confidential and omit the traditional press conference after the winning.
