The bill about whether or not a multistate lottery like Mega Million winner should stay anonymous seems to raise people’s debate and arguments. Some people agree that the winners should have the right to remain unidentified unless they want to be open but others think that they have to publicly announce their winning.
According to Jack Lessenberry, Wayne State University’s professor of journalism, lottery winners’ names should not be kept secret because it is such a price of admission of winning and a consequence of getting a lot of money for free. While other people agree that keeping the name as anonymous can protect the winner from scam and fraud, the professor disagree by saying that the dangers are actually just the excess of family and friends’ jealousy and wish to get some share. He also added that if the millionaires from lottery are hidden from public, the fund paid for good deed like education will decrease. Lottery winners will not be urged to pay for the donation if public does not know it.
That might be true and it seems that it will need quite a long discussion and debate to fix the bill. This topic will still be processed but hopefully the outcome can bring good effects to all lottery players and winners.
