Euro Millions is the European lottery game that has become one of the oldest and biggest games worldwide. Its popularity is proven with at least 9 different countries in Europe joining the game. It’s drawn twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays with the minimum jackpot of € 15 million.
The history of the game started on 13 February 2004 when three nations (France, Spain and the UK) initiated the launching of the game. The organizers were The Camelot in the UK running UK National Lottery, the Loterias y Apuestas des Estad in Spain and Francaise des Jeux in France. The idea actually came up 10 years before but the game could not be launched due to bureaucracy and political situations. For few months following the first launching, six other European countries, Belgium, Luxemburg, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland and Ireland, came joining. On May 10 2011, the matrix was changed from a 5/50 and 2/9 to the matrix of 5/50 and 2/11 and another new prize tier the Match 2 was added.
The Euro Millions game odds are 1 in 116,531,800. It seems very difficult to get the top jackpot in this game and sometimes there is no one who wins. However, the Euro Millions jackpot is then rolled over and summed up to the jackpot fund and then put into the next round of Euro Millions draw. Looking at the history, in March 2009 there was an additional rule of a cap for the jackpot pool at €185 million and the rest of the prize money is given for the winners of smaller prizes. Previously it was then allocated to the jackpot fund. A record in the Euro Millions jackpots winning has been €185 million as the total sum up of the previous 13 consecutive rollovers. It had previously run for 2 weeks in July 2011 and finally won by Christine and Colin Weir.
Despite the less chance of winning the jackpot, the prize levels go to 13 levels and the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 13. It sounds promising because if you cannot reach the jackpot, you may have better chance to at least get a prize.
The rules of the game are quite easy. The participants have to choose 5 numbers from a pool of 50 numbers and 2 supplementary numbers called the Lucky Stars from the total numbers of 1 to 11. When a player can match those 5 main numbers and the Lucky stars, the payer has won the jackpot.
If you are interested to buy the tickets, you may need to get it from the lottery retailers or via online. Some people prefer the online selling because it will reduce the risks of losing the tickets. This will result on disappointment as other people who happen to find the ticket will have the right to claim the prize when it comes to luck.
