The Texas Cash 5 is an “In-House” draw game which is drawn six days a week. Despite its regularity and the smaller prize pool attached to it, it still managed to entice over 23% of lottery players to participate in 2014.
History of The Texas Cash 5
Beginning originally in 1995 the “Cash 5”, as it was then called, was relatively successful and was only drawn twice weekly on Tuesdays’ and Fridays’. Only a year later the schedule changed with the Cash 5 being drawn four nights per week. As a result of this increased frequency the overall prize pool for each draw shrunk, as did the support of the players.
In 2002 the game changed again. There was a reduction in the number of balls from 39 to 37, a guaranteed prize of $2 was brought in for matching 2 out of 5 numbers and the draw frequency increased again to six nights per week, the only free night being Sunday.
Despite some controversy over the various changes the game is still currently played with a reasonable level of regularity.
Playing The Texas Cash 5
The Texas Cash 5 has a 37 ball structure with players choosing 5 numbers. A guaranteed prize of $2 is paid for matching 2 of the 5 chosen numbers. The total prize fund equates to 50% of the ticket sales value for that draw.
If the jackpot prize is not won on a particular draw, the jackpot value will be added to the prize pool for those who matched 4 out of 5 numbers. This prize total is then shared amongst all of the winners for that prize field.
How To Claim Your Prize
All prizes are paid out in full, there is no annuity option associated with this game. Lower value prizes can be claimed from lottery retailers while prizes above $599 in value must be claimed from any Lottery Claim Centre.
The ticket is considered to be the receipt and is required to claim all prizes.
Winning tickets must be claimed within 180 days following the date of the draw.
