Cash4Life is a lottery game that began in New York and New Jersey on June 13, 2014. Pennsylvania joined the game on April 7, 2015. Also, Cash4Life will become available in Virginia on May 1.
Cash4Life replaced the game called "Sweet Million in New York". It will also replace the game "Decades of Dollars" in Virginia. Cash4Life drawings are held on Mondays and Thursdays.
The cost of each game is $2. Players can choose (or select the "quick-pick" option) 5/60 numbers in the main field, and 1/4 green "Cash Ball" numbers in a second field. The name "Cash4Life" refers to “Cash Ball“ numbers.
A player (or players) who match six numbers wins the Grand prize or shares the prize ("split-prize liability"). The annuity of the prize is $1,000 per “day-for-life“ while a single payment is $7,000,000 cash.
Second prize can have multiple winners of $1,000 (per “week-for-life“) and/or $1,000,000 cash. It is required by New Jersey Lottery regulations that a player chooses cash or annuity when they pay. A "cash" ticket is considered binding. This means that a “cash“ ticket can't be changed to annuity ticket. Opposite to that, a player has the option to change the "annuity" ticket to cash after winning.
Virginia will replace the game "Decades of Dollars", which used to be a four-state game, after it enters Cash4Life.
Prizes in Cash4Life are following:
- Match 5+1: $1,000/day for life. Chances of winning are 1 in 21,846,048.
- Match 5+0: $52,000/year for life. Chances of winning are 1 in 7,282,016.
- Match 4+1: $2,500. Chances of winning are 1 in 79,440.
- Match 4+0: $500. Chances of winning are 1 in 26,480.
- Match 3+1: $100. Chances of winning are 1 in 1,471.
- Match 3+0: $25. Chances of winning are 1 in 490.
- Match 2+1: $10, chances of winning are 1 in 83.
- For match 2+0: $4, chances of winning are 1 in 28.
- Finally, for match 1+1: $2, chances of winning are 1 in 13.
There is a liability limit set on top three prizes. In case that the number of winners of "lifetime" prize is excessive, winners will receive a lump sum of their share in the prize. Cash option values can vary, but the Top prize amount is usually $7 million while the second prize amount is $1 million. The prize pool is 55% of sales.
Another, significantly different game, was also called Cash4Life. That game was offered from March 30, 1998 to September 7, 2000, by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). Players received numerous sets of four numbers for each play. Players would win the top prize, $1,000-per-week-for-life if the top set of four numbers matched those drawn. In case there were multiple winners of the top prize, the winners would share the prize. However, these winners could not have the option of choosing cash, according to Multi-State Lottery Association.
