"Megabucks" (whose original version began in 1985), became "Megabucks Plus" in July 2009. Megabucks Plus is a double-matrix game (as Hot Lotto, Mega Millions, Lucky for Life, and Powerball). Players can choose five numbers out of a field of 41 numbers and a "Megaball" from a field of six numbers. "Megabucks" is played in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
Tri-State Megabucks Plus is a $2 game. The Jackpot is starting at $1 million, and the game also has a second prize of $30,000. All of the winners are local because the game is drawn in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
Megabucks Plus is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59 PM ET and tickets can be purchased daily. Megabucks Plus prizes expire one year from draw date.
Every time a Tri-State Megabucks Plus ticket is purchased in New Hampshire, profits remain in the state and are designated to education.
Each play costs $2 for each draw. One play consists of a two-part panel, and a player can purchase a ticket for up to 20 draws. To buy a multiple-draw ticket, a player needs to select a draw number under the "draws" column.
The overall cost of a ticket can vary, depending on the number of panels and draws a player pays.
On a Megabucks Plus play slip, a player can choose to mark five numbers from 1 to 41, and one number from 1 to 6. Megabucks Plus allows players to play up to five panels on a single play slip. If the player wants the computer terminal to randomly picks their numbers, they need to mark the Easy Pick (EP) box on each play. Megabucks Plus also has a "Multiple Draws" option.
The prizes in "Megabucks Plus" are:
- Match 5 of 5 + Megaball to win Jackpot, with odds of 1:4,496,388.
- Match 5 of 5 to win $30000, with odds being 1:899,278.
- Match 4 of 5 + Megaball to win $1300, with odds being 1:24,980.
- Match 4 of 5 to win $150 with odds being 1:4,996.
- Match 3 of 5 + Megaball to win $25 with odds being 1:714.
- Match 3 of 5 to win $7 with odds being 1:143.
- Match 2 of 5 + Megaball to win $5 with odds being 1:63.
- Match 2 of 5 to win $2, with odds being 1:13.
- Match 1 of 5+ Megaball to win $2 with odds being 1:15.
The game allows players to select up to 20 draws per play slip.
The main prize can be annuitized (30 payments over 29 years) for the approximate advertised jackpot amount, or in a single cash payment. Winners have an option to choose the cash or annuity within 60 days from filing a claim. In case that multiple players win the jackpot in a drawing, they will share the prize equally.
The game's jackpot odds are 1:4,496,388. Those would be the higher odds than the "Tri-State Weekly Grand", other Tri-State lottery option, in which chances are 1: 1,832,600).
